How we pick haircuts for your face
First your face is measured in the browser — 478 landmarks, boiled down to the ratios stylists care about: face length to width, jaw against cheekbones, forehead width, chin shape. That gives your face shape. Then every style in our catalog, each one hand-tagged against the classic suitability rules (round faces want height, square jaws want softening, long faces want fringes), is scored against your shape and ranked. You see the top matches, not the whole wall.
What the match score means
The score is a ranking heuristic, not a beauty verdict. A 92+ means the cut’s defining features — its length, fringe, where its volume sits — line up with what the rules recommend for your proportions. An 80 means it works without being built for you. The real test is seeing it on yourself, which is exactly what the Studio is for.
From shortlist to seeing it on you
A list of names only gets you so far — the question is always "but would it suit me?". Every recommendation here links straight into the Stylery Studio, where the cut is applied to your own photo with your face kept exactly as it is. Two looks are free when you sign up; your original photo is used for the session and never kept.
Built on real, current styles
The catalog behind this tool is the same one the Studio uses — over a hundred styles across pixies, bobs, lobs, layers, waves, curls, crops, quiffs and long cuts, for women and men, curated and updated as trends move. When new styles land in the catalog, they automatically join the matching pool.
Questions, answered
How is this different from just browsing hairstyle photos?
Browsing shows you what looks good on the model. This tool starts from your measured face shape and ranks styles by suitability rules hairdressers actually use — then lets you preview any of them on your own photo.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Face measurement runs entirely in your browser. The photo never leaves your device.
Does it work for men and women?
Yes — pick Women or Men before you upload and the shortlist draws from that side of the catalog. The face shape analysis itself is identical.
Why six recommendations?
Six is enough to show range — different lengths and textures that all respect your face shape — without dumping the whole catalog on you. You can browse everything in the Studio.
Can I trust the rules behind the scores?
The rules are the documented industry consensus (face-shape suitability used by stylists), applied per style by hand. We encode the rules; we don’t invent them. The final judge is you, looking at the style on your own face.
